Edition 57
As I expected, the Olympics are going to bring in a bunch of stories, impossible to not share. I had known a little about Karate but this article made me smile so many times. For one, I didn’t know what I thought was quintessentially Japanese wasn’t so, despite knowing Karate has Chinese influences. The origin of the word Karate itself is interesting. Another revelation is that Karate as it is practised traditionally, has no place for an opponent. That’s the ultimate manifestation of a process mindset. A third is that Karate has 3 components - Kumite (sparring), Kihon (technique) and Kata (form). The article mentions kumite and kata but doesn’t explicitly name the third. I am full of all sorts of pleasant inspiration because of reading this article. I hope it does the same for you. Have a great week. The athletics part of the Tokyo Olympics kicks off tomorrow with the men’s 10,000 event. Depending on how I feel (which mostly means how the Kenyans do), I may send out a 3rd instalment this week.
