Edition 174 - Maddie Le Roux, Kahneman
This episode with Maddie Le Roux who won the Zwift Academy is fabulously educative on the life of a professional cyclist. Among many things I learnt from listening to it were the fact that the South African cycling scene isn’t really as vibrant as I thought it was, at least for women. Also, South African cyclists typically struggle to get long hills to train on, since most of the country is flat (am assuming the same must be true for runners, except during Comrades when they close the roads). However the fact that the country is windy helps make up for some of the lack of hills.
Here’s the actual episode which shows some of the cycling as well as the athlete’s reactions and so on. At around the 21 min mark, you see Maddie’s response to the final announcement. I honestly liked the podcast more since I could hear what’s going thru Maddie’s head over the 2 years that she worked towards bettering herself and some insight into the kind of person she is. I am in love with her. Such a sweet, hard-working, brilliant, non-whining athlete. All qualities I aspire to. I am hoping it inspires to me get better.
Finally, a goodbye to Daniel Kahneman, who’s had a profound impact on my life
