Edition 158 - standing desk
In the heat of all that self-pity in my prev. edition, I forgot to tell you about something that created a surprising amount of actual discomfort in my daily life. I got myself a standing desk after about 2-3 years of wanting one. The big surprise was the amount of physical distress it caused for a few days as my legs adjusted to it. My calves and Achilles tendon groaned. I had used one for a while b/w Dec 2021 and Dec 2022 at my then office, but I mostly wore shoes then. So this was unexpected as I am barefoot at home. I got so spooked at one point that I adjusted it down to a sitting height as I didn’t want sore legs before the race at Mangalore.
The cool thing is that now I feel almost normal despite quite some mileage in the weeks gone by and standing much longer than I did in the week before my Mangalore event. This is one sort of incidental-learning I love! As a parent to 2 young kids, I almost take nothing for granted, but that’s mostly when it has something to do with them and me. This is the first time I was surprised by something seemingly innocuous in my own life, esp something to do with health & fitness
